Satinwood with brass mounts and ivory handles, the upper doors decorated with four painted panels on a gilt grounds, representing Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter. The panels were probably painted by Godwin's wife, Beatrice, whom he had married in 1876 after Ellen Terry left him.
