[This formatting of the letterpress, the double columns and double frame, is intended to recall the format of Household Words, Dickens's vastly popular and influential journal in the 1850s.] The framed area is 9.3 cm high by 13.8 cm wide (4 ¼ high by 5 ½ inches), on a framed page 21.2 cm high by 15 cm wide (8 ⅜ high by 6 inches), so that the image is surrounded by Dickens's words; consequently, for the reader the mixed-media page is what Arlene M. Jackson terms "a narrative-pictorial synthesis" (65).
