‘Over; - Half over; - Well over’ 1868, 6¼ x 8½ inches. Unnumbered plateA Month in the Midlands. Bowers frequently shows her horses in a sequence of movements. In this design the figure in the top left is in the process of jumping, the one in the middle is about to fall off, and the final one, to the bottom right, has been thrown over the hedge. The elegance of the first character is thus undermined by the farce of the other two, while also presenting a sort of study in action that prefigures the work of Muybridge and the rise of moving photography, which eventually developed into film.
