"Fancy": Bookplate for Harold Baker

A nymph on a waterlily, drawn by noble swans, with a suggestion of wings or a thought-bubble thick with a variety of figures and shapes.... and with more bubbles floating free of it. Everything suggests the pleasure and inspiration to be gained by reading. There is nothing here of Coleridge's idea that fancy is inferior to the imagination. This is likely to have been for Harold Baker (1860-1942), the Birmingham photographer. [Click on image to enlarge it]
