'The Blessed Damozel’

William Brown Macdougall

1898

Wood engraving

9¾ x 6¾ inches

The Blessed Damozel, no pagination.

An Art Nouveau border for Rossetti’s poem. Macdougall draws a strong contrast between absolute black and white in the manner of Beardsley. The emanating vines and fruits are typical of the sort of motif that features in the ‘New Style’.
