Alexander’s Tomb
Fred Mason
Woodcut by Fred Mason
5¼ x 4 inches
Robert Steele, The Story of Alexander, 216
A powerful piece of graphic design which epitomizes Mason’s eclecticism: the briar device is lifted from Selwyn Image and the simplified patterns of trees and flowers from Beardsley. This late Victorian design is a radical departure from the naturalism of the 1860s.
