St Nicholas, St Andrew and St Gabriel, by C. E. Moore in St Martin's, West Acton, London. This is the fourth window in the south aisle, in which the two outermost lights were installed in the 1940s, in memory of individuals who gave their lives in the war. The date of the middle one is not known, but since it is in memory of the first vicar of the parish, James Henry Blackman, 1903-08, it was probably put in a good deal earlier. Each of the saints bears his usual attributes: St Nicholas, patron saint of sailors, here commemorating a Captain and his wife, and their grandson who died in the war, has a ship; St Andrew has the instrument of his martyrdom, the transverse cross; and the Angel Gabriel, commemorating several young men who died in the war, a lily stem, reminding us of the Annunciation.
