Note 5, Chapter 2, of the author's Swinburne's Medievalism: A Study in Victorian Love Poetry which Louisiana State University Press published in 1979. It has been included in the Victorian web with the kind permission of the author, who of course retains copyright.
"The year 1863 comes as an anti-climax after the many event and in-tense literary activity of the months that preceded. Apart from The Triumph of Time, it seems that Swinburne set himself as his chief task during the first half of the year to complete and give some sort of definite shape to the much modified and rewritten Chastelard" (Lafourcade, Swinburne, 107).
