everly Andrews is an African American playwright, director, documentary filmmaker and performer living and working in the United Kingdom. A recipient of the 2017 Roland Rees Playwright’s Award Bursary, she was shortlisted twice for the Alfred Fagon award, and wrote and produced the film/theatre hybrid Sophia, which looks at the life of Asian suffragette Sophia Duleep Singh. The film was shot during the final days of the UK’s lockdown and has subsequently been screened by the cultural wing of the Indian High Commission at their Nehru Centre and at several international film festivals including the Dhaka International Film Festival in Bangladesh, Dada Saheb Phalke International Film Festival in India and the Druk International Film Festival – Bhutan.

The play version of Sophia was produced in Bhutan, by the Royal Thimpu College. An audio recording of Sophia is available on Spotify as part of the "Forgotten Women" podcasts.

Beverly was the immersive artist in residence to Britten Pears Arts, the home of the Aldeburgh International festival, through the European Network of Opera Academies. And a showcase of her environmental opera, which she wrote the libretto for, called Water, is tentatively scheduled for late fall.

Beverly is the director and producer of the documentary I am Going to Make a Miracle which looks at the work of Arcola Theatre, and has gone on to win three international film awards. It was bought by Sky Arts in New Zealand.

Her play about Afghanistan called Annawon’s Song, made the shortlist of the Sundance Institute’s theatre lab and premiered at London’s 2019 Vault festival.

Beverly’s musical, The Coloured Valentino, which looks at the African American silent screen industry received an Arts Council of England research and development grant and was showcased in 2022 at the Arcola Theatre.

Beverly is also alumna of two Sundance Institute’s collaborative film directing courses. Beverly’s work draws on her multi-discipline background and she has been a contributing journalist to The Middle East magazine and New African magazine, and is currently a reviewer for FORMIdea.
