In her sumptous attire, with elaborate brimmed and beribboned hat and fashionable floral and fur-trimmed matching cape and muff, this young woman cuts a very different figure from Boughton's earlier Dutch peasant girls. [Commentary continues below.]

The Lady of the Snows stands out from the wintry scenery in her vibrant reds and floral patternings. Even the white trimmings are brighter than the flat snowy and watery wastes that frame her. But this outdoor scenery itself is similar to the scenery in Boughton's Dutch paintings, and may have been inspired by the same trip to Holland.
