Ponte Vecchio. Lord Frederic Leighton (1830-1896). 1858. Graphite on paper. 105 x 148 mm (4 1/8 x 5 3/16 inches). Signed lower right: "Ponte Vecchio / 58." Provenance: with J.W. Reynolds and Co., New York; bought as Lot 126, Sotheby's, 9th June 2005. In the catalogue it is "attributed to" Leighton, but in a pre-auction announcement the works were firmly assigned to him. Indeed, each of the three are titled in Leighton’s extremely distinctive handwriting. [Click on image to enlarge it.]
