Primroses and Birds' Nests on a Mossy Bank by Oliver Clare (1853-1927). Oil on canvas, 10 x 12 1/4 inches. Signed and dated 1882. “Oliver Clare was from a family of Birmingham still-life painters. His other subject was dogs, with which he was particularly gifted — he taught his own dog to stoke the fire and collect fruit from the green grocer” (Maas catalogue).
