Alfred Drury, R.A., 1856-1944.
Signed and dated: A. Drury 08
Bronze
60 cm. high
Private collection
This reduced-sized bronze differs markedly in several details from the version of this subject on the façade of the Victoria & Albert Museum: to begin with, whereas the bronze wears a turban the stone version has what looks like a medieval Italian hat or head-covering much like the one in portraits of Dante. In addition, the robe drapes over the base of the statue far more than it does in the stone version. The branch with leaves and fruit has minor variations.
