Bradley and Pevsner explain that “The CIRCUS all around was designed to accommodate sightseers during parades and ceremonies. . . . STATUARY on piers, youths or amorini with shields of Dominions and colonies and appropriate flora and fauna” (656). In this case a female lion (or a tiger) and vegetation serve as attributes.
