“In 1875 Onslow Ford exhibited a portrait of his wife at the Royal Academy (no. 1387). The Art Journal described it as ' . . . a free and effective portrait.' (1875, p. 263). No medium is specified, nor is there an illustration. However, since Ford only returned to London circa 1874 (from Munich where he had studied painting), it seems possible that this bust, which is the right date and has the intimacy of such a portrait, could be that of his wife” (Sotheby's catalogue, 162).
