Monument with the inscription, "In memory of Gladys Spencer, L.L.C.M. 'My Darling Gladeyes,' who passed away 6th April 1931 aged 34 years. 'The gardener hath plucked a still rarer flower.'" City of London Cemetery.
David Conway writes that Gladys "was a local music and dance teacher who worked at the Classical Academy of Music and Dancing in Rixon Road, Manor Park," and "was well known for charity work."
Seen from any angle, the monument is striking. Hugh Meller describes it as "worth searching for," particularly mentioning the "anguished figure" sprawled over the piano (115).
