Coffered ceiling in the Grand Locarno Conference Room. Foreign Office, Whitehall. Sir George Gilbert Scott. 1861-68. During renovation, plasterboard was stripped to reveal "the coffered ceiling, pilasters crowned with Corinthian capitals, and quadrants supporting gilded iron beams. Circular majolica plaques bearing the national arms or emblems of twenty countries further ornament these quadrants, and the original stencilled design has been reinstated on the walls" (8).
