Sarcophagus. This elaborate memorial in Nunhead Cemetery, Linden Grove, London SE15 3LP, for the shipbuilder John Allan (1790-1865) is based on the Payava tomb at Xanthos discovered in 1830. A bronze relief portrait of Allen signed “M. Noble, Sculp./London 1867” appears on the rear of the tomb.
“Nunhead Cemetery is one of the Magnificent Seven cemeteries in London, England. It is perhaps the least famous and celebrated of them. The cemetery is located in the Nunhead area of southern London and was originally known as All Saints' Cemetery. It was opened in 1840 by the London Cemetery Company” (Wikipedia).
