effrey Begeal is one of the founding members of the Aureo Anello Association established in 2000 by Dr. Julia Bolton Holloway to restore the Protestant "English" Cemetery in Florence, where Elizabeth Barrett Browning and other notable members of the foreign community were buried. He has worked with Dr Holloway and other history-lovers since then, and during that time has written a biography of the American Consul General in Florence 1869-76 (James Lorimer Graham, Jr. c. 1832-1876; Biography of an American Savant, Villa de Bella Silva Press: Smithfield, NC., 2004), who was also laid to rest there. At the next "City and the Book Conference X," to be held at the Academia in Florence on 26 April 2025, Jeffrey will be presenting his research on Franklin Torrey, an American marble dealer who lived in Tuscany for over 50 years, and is buried in the Allori Cemetery in Florence.
