Head of a girl
Sir Edward Coley Burne-Jones, Bt ARA (1833-1898)
circa 1895
Red chalk on sanguine paper
14 x 10 3/8 inches, 35.5 x 26.3 cm.
The soft use of chalk in this drawing is typical of Burne-jones's style in the last years of his life. It, too, is probably an independent work of art rather than a study, although the fact that it is neither signed nor dated suggests that Burne-Jones may have retained it. It is reproduced as a Hollyer photograph (Witt Library).
