One of five drapery studies for Captive Andromache; this study was also used for Electra.
Provenance: Leighton studio collection until 1896; then Sir Edmund Gosse. Bought as Lot 2, Sotheby's, London, 15th July 2009. Captive Andromache was done between 1886−88 and is in Manchester City Art Galleries. Electra at the Tomb of Agamemnon, 1888−89 is in the Ferens Art Gallery, Hull.
