Study of a seated woman
C. H. Shannon
Signed 'CS' and numbered (verso) 'G275'
Black and white chalks on grey paper
11 3/8 x 8 inches, 28.8 x 20.4 cm.
This appears to be a study of Hilda Moore, one of Shannon's favorite sitters of whom he painted seven portraits. The pose of the figure has similarities with that of Hilda Moore in the painting 'Lady with the Amethyst' of 1915, which is now in the Tate Gallery. — Hilary Morgan
