Taking into account the way pollution affected sculpture and building façades, the cartoonist facetiously suggests that sculptors should create statues of very fat people, which “after a period of reduction . . . might be converted to a likeness of Her Majesty,” after which it would become a likeness of Disraeli, then become “the elegantly slim figure of — say Mr. Fun.” “Anon it might reduce itself to a monument of the living skeleton;” finally, it would shrink to a lamp post!
