    • As Philip Ward-Jackson says, "The list of Woolner's busts reads like a roll-call of eminent Victorians" (485). One of the handful of examples given by Ward-Jackson, Lord Lawrence was a major figure in the Indian Mutiny, especially in the recapture of Delhi. According to the London Quarterly Review in "Crisis of the Sepoy Rebellion", Lord Canning "in worthy terms recorded his pre-eminent merit and services" at that time. Lord Lawrence became Governor-General and Viceroy of India, 1864-69. He was the Viceroy who decided that Shimla should become the summer capital of the Raj. [Continued below]
