Stanford Viaduct, Loughborough, constructed by Henry Lovatt (1831-1913) of Wolverhampton. c.1896-98. This locally listed viaduct carried an extension of the Great Central Railway, the last main line of the Victorian era, over the River Soar near Loughborough. "The pillars of the three central arches are set at a skew, as these stand in the River Soar" ("Viaduct at Stanford-on-Soar, Nottinghamshire"). Part in Leicestershire and part in Nottinghamshire, it was constructed of blue engineering brick in the late 1890s, and opened in 1899. After the rest of the line was closed, it stayed open to carry gypsum from a nearby works, and now also carries heritage trains.
