    • These tiny post boxes were first used in London squares, then rural areas, for the convenience of small local communities. The design was copied from an earlier American one ("The British Post Box"). This box is by the Thames towpath, at the corner of a small lane. Hanging crookedly now, it is tied to a post in a hedge and surrounded by ivy. It is only about 20" tall, but still in use.
