‘The Arts and Manufactures of Switzerland and Italy.’ 1850. Lithograph, 5 x 9½ inches. Another satirical glimpse of what are supposed to be the prime products of each of these countries: pasta, organ-grinding, and mountain costumes. The lower level completes the round-up of stereotypes with German sausages and pipe-smoking. Sala also includes other national characteristics, notable the Swiss goitre, which is shown in caricature.
