Christian's Fight against Evil

Heaton, Butler and Bayne

South aisle stained glass window

c.1907

St Mary Magdalene Church, Enfield

The window is in memory of James Washington Crouch, who, according to the inscription below it, "had held office in this church for 24 years," and died in 1907. The text illustrated is: "Whose I am and whom I serve my grace is sufficient for thee," the last part of which comes from 2 Corinthians 12, 9. The young knight, with his flag of St George, draws courage from the risen Christ who still wears the crown of thorns. Calvary can be seen in the background. In the central tracery light above is written, "Be thou faithful unto death and I will give thee a crown of life" (Revelation 2,10).
