Anne-Louis Girodet-Trioson (1767-1824)
Baron Henri de Triqueti (1803-1874)
Bust-medallion in marble
1853
Collection: Musée Girodet, Montargis (Loiret)
Girodet was "one of the greatest French painters of the early nineteenth century. Born in the city of Montargis, Girodet studied in David’s studio, and was a forerunner of Romanticism" ("Musée Girodet"). Henri de Triqueti was Girodet's disciple, and this likeness of him, looking every bit the wild-haired Romantic artist, was placed at the entrance to the museum's exhibition of Triqueti's works in 2022/3. A full-page plate of it also prefaces Véronique Galliot-Rateau's account of Triqueti's careeer in her monograph on him. — Jacqueline Banerjee
